International Gateway Offers Insight Into Canadian Government Study Permit Hours of Work Rules
As part of the IGK Futures Series, we have been highlighting opportunities for local businesses to find valuable employees from the international community. The Canadian government has recently lifted the maximum workable hours for students which was previously set at 20 hours per week. This increases the opportunities for internationals looking to travel, study, work and possibly immigrate to Canada. As published in the Financial Post, "International Students Could Help Ease (the) Canadian Labour Shortage."

This is only the beginning of the opportunities to attract new potential students, as previously it was only those wealthy individuals who could afford to pay the international student rates, thereby giving more individuals a chance to learn, at the same time gaining valuable experience and contacts here in Canada to further their immigration opportunities if they choose to do so.
Equally, this is an opportunity for our business partners to evaluate their marketing efforts for not only sales and services, but also for gaining the best employees possible. By widening the funnel of candidates, businesses can be back in the driving seat in their hiring practices, potentially alleviating some of the burdens that they are currently facing.
