Spooky Season at IGK!:

Autumn traditions and Halloween fun throughout the month of October It’s that time of the year again! As the leaves start to change and all the cafes start serving everything pumpkin spice, we at IGK are gearing up for Halloween! October is by far our favourite month for activities. Let us tell you why:

Sports

In summer, Kelowna is the hottest place in Canada. In October, however, the temperatures drop to a comfortable level, allowing for more outdoor activities. This month we’re playing pickleball (a favourite in the Okanagan) and soccer in the park. Nearer to the end of the month, when it starts to get a little chilly, we’re going rock climbing and bouldering indoors, just a short walk from the school!

Cozy Comfort & Lots of Laughs

Every month we enjoy delicious food, and this month is geared toward being comfy and cozy (that real “hygge” feeling the Danish are famous for). We’re taking students to the Board Game Café, where they can enjoy a warm drink while making friends (and enemies!) over a game of RISK or Monopoly, or one of the hundreds of games they have available. Bakehouse 360 down the street has a huge selection of fresh donuts daily, as well as delicious cakes, pies and cookies. For students 19+, a local cider tasting is a must in fall, but we’ll also drop in for bubble tea if cider isn’t your thing! Of course, students will be able to enjoy Thanksgiving with their host families, which is the ultimate in cozy fall comfort. Pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, and turkey! Scandia Golf and Games is a popular attraction and is great year-round. Come visit their arcade with us in early October where you can shoot some zombies, play MarioKart, or play single player classics like Street Fighter. Later in the month we’re checking out Planet Lazer, our local laser tag venue!

Ghosts and ghouls, oh my! Spooky season is here!

Did you know that Halloween is one of the most popular celebrations in Canada, only second in spending to Christmas! Every year we have a round-up of activities as we get closer to October 31st! We’ll start with a visit to local costume shops to give you some ideas for Halloween costumes (the most popular costumes are witches, black cats, and superheroes, but you can get creative with them!). Next, we’ll visit a haunted corn maze (sure to give you an adrenaline rush!) In the week before Halloween, we’ll decorate the school (bring on the cobwebs and spiders!), visit a pumpkin patch (to pick your perfect pumpkin) and teach you how to carve a pumpkin (a long-standing tradition). Finally, on October the 31st, we’ll have our annual costume party! The student with the best costume wins a prize. There’s something for everyone this October, so visit us in Kelowna!
