University/College Pathway Program FAQs

A University/College Pathway Program is where students take academic ESL classes. The purpose is to improve students’ English language skills for specific academic tasks, such as note-taking during a lecture or doing research and writing an essay using that research. It will help to prepare students for studying at a Canadian institution by teaching strategies to enhance critical thinking and study skills for post-secondary education.

To study in our Pathway Program, students must have completed at least IGK’s pre-intermediate course or equivalent. There are three levels of EAP: EAP 100 requires the students to be intermediate level, EAP 200 requires students to be upper intermediate level and EAP 300 requires students to be advanced level. If you are unsure of your level, you can take our free online English test.

Each level of the EAP courses uses two textbooks – one focuses on reading, writing and critical thinking and the other focuses on listening, speaking and critical thinking.

In the full-time Pathway Program, students will study for 30 lessons a week between 8.45am-12.20pm in the morning session and 1.00pm-2.50pm in the afternoon session. Each EAP course runs for 6 weeks.

Once you start one of EAP courses, our Pathway Coordinator can help answer your questions and support you in your decision and application to one of our partner institutions. Throughout the year, we also have presentations from some of our partner colleges and universities.
