The Hospitality and Tourism program is designed for students who are interested in future careers in the Okanaganās vibrant hospitality industry. The program provides a solid foundation of theory and practical knowledge in Canadian workplace essentials and customer service skills, as well as a focus in different sectors of the hospitality industry. These include: hotels, event planning, food and beverage and tourism.Ā Students will have the opportunity to join one of our many local co-op partners to gain valuable experience and better prepare them for their future careers.
On graduation, learners will be able to:
– Communicate effectively and professionally in oral and written communication in the workplace
– Demonstrate workplace roles, responsibilities and skills for beneficial customer experience
– Demonstrate workplace guidelines, and regulations for appropriate workplace conduct
– Evaluate the hospitality and tourism industry and the various employability sectors to determine career possibilities
– Discuss trends in the future of the hospitality and tourism industry and the effects on potential career paths

Courses (60 hours per course)
This course provides the skills needed for students to be ready for the Canadian workforce. The course explores: business communication such as team interaction, listening and nonverbal methods, intercultural awareness, oral presentations, routine and positive messages, negative messages, resumes and interview skills.
This course provides an introduction tocustomer service. It explores the definition of customer service, behaviors that engage customers, active listening skills, insights into emerging trends in customer service, customer turnoffs, customer feedback, customer recoveryand exceeding customer expectations.
This course is intended to prepare students for entry-level positions in the Food and Beverage industry. Topics include roles and responsibilities, including the purpose of safety in the workplace, Serving it Right, standardized recipes, product purchasing, product receiving, storing and issuing, quality food-production standards, quality-beverage standards and communicating with guests.
This course provides an overview of the Event Planning Industry. Students examine the stages of different events taking into consideration event types, venues, trends and best practices, event marketing, legal aspects, risk and crisis management technology in the industry and negotiation strategies.
This course provides an overview of the hotel industry with emphasis on customer service skills. The course analyzes the different departments in the hotel industry and key functions.
This course provides an overview of the Tourism Industry in Canada. Students examine different factors that influence tourism: guests and hosts, transportation, accommodations, food, beverage, recreation, events, the stages tour creation (planning, development, and marketing a destination), and the future of the industry.
