Experience life on a farm in the beautiful Thompson Okanagan region of British Columbia! This semi-desert environment boasts plenty of sunshine, little rain and year round mild temperatures. Learn about animal husbandry, training and breeding horses, growing and harvesting fruit and vegetables and at the same time improve your English conversation skills. Participate in activities such as horseback riding, hiking, fishing, arts and crafts, cross-country skiing and snow shoeing. Students are placed on a farm of their choice for 1 to 6 weeks. Farmstay participants are provided a single room, shared bath and 3 meals per day and have access to laundry, telephone, internet and television. Students are required to volunteer 15 hours per week as part of this program. Farmstays are available year round for ages 19 and up and must be taken in conjunction with a Practical ESL/Homestay program at IGK (minimum 4 weeks) prior to the placement. Due to the distances involved, it is not possible to commute between the farmstays and IGK for classes. (Farmstay details)
