The Gateway to the Okanagan Valley

The international gateway to British Columbia’s sunny Okanagan Valley, Kelowna is an extraordinarily scenic destination surrounded by rolling, pine-covered mountains. It is characterized by award-winning wineries, a thriving agricultural and orchard community, and an array of leisure activities. Living in Kelowna means enjoying a year-round outdoor lifestyle. In the summer, relax on one of the beautiful beaches or enjoy water sports on Okanagan Lake. In winter, there are lots of local opportunities to ski, snowboard, ice skate and snowshoe. The spring and autumn are the best times of year to try mountain biking or hiking in the surrounding nature of Kelowna.

Okanagan Lake, the largest of the lakes, is 135 km (84 miles) long and ranges from about 3.2 to 6.4 km wide. East of Okanagan Lake are Swan, Kalamalka (a Salish word meaning lake of many colours) and Wood lakes. To the south are Skaha, Vaseux and Osoyoos lakes. The system drains south into the Okanagan River, crosses the border into Washington, and joins the Columbia River. The Columbia then veers west and carves a path through the Cascade and Coast Mountain ranges to drain into the Pacific Ocean
