Five levels of Practical ESL are offered from Beginner to Advanced which focus on the combined skills of reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, listening and speaking. Northstar and Headway are the main textbooks.
Students choose one elective from a variety of afternoon electives depending on their level and interest. Conversation, Canadian Culture, Cambridge FCE/CAE and IELTS exam preparation are the most popular electives. Field trips are incorporated into some electives to reinforce ‘real life’ language practice.
*Each student will be given a placement test on the first day of class to determine their level.
*Homework requirements vary with the level and with the elective but students can expect 30 minutes to 1 hour of homework each day. There are weekly quizzes and tests.
*Not all electives or levels may be offered at one time. A minimum of 6 students is required to run any given elective or level. Contact IGK for a current selection.
*Ages 12-15 can enroll in part time morning Practical ESL from June to August only. IGK homestay placements are unavailable for part time minors. It is strongly recommended that students aged 12-15 enroll in IGK’s all inclusive Youth Vacation Program which runs from June to August.

Students can enroll for 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 or 13 weeks depending on the exam and the session. Cambridge exams are the world’s most popular exams for learners of English. Each year they are taken by over 1.5 million people, in 135 countries. Students can use the certificates to gain entrance to a university or college, improve job prospects, satisfy immigration requirements and to measure progress in English. Unlike TOEFL, TOEIC and IELTS, Cambridge results never expire! Students can expect 1 to 2 hours of homework daily. A Cambridge pretest is available to interested participants to pre-determine entry preparedness. Contact email@example.com.
